Dear Student,

Hopefully you are enjoying your summer whether you're on campus or elsewhere! We're really making the most of the outdoor spaces on campus, along with our postgraduate students and many visitors. 

We know that changes to routines over the summer can mean fewer opportunities to connect with others. Volunteering can be a great way to meet like minded people, read below to find out more.  

It's a nail biting week for many with results due. If you don't get the results you hoped for, we have details on supports over the summer that might help.  

You might have noticed the Student Enquiry Centre is getting a facelift! If you need help while our Centre is closed you can email us here. We look forward to welcoming you back to our refurbished Centre in time for the new academic year.

EXAM RESULTS - TORTHAÍ SCRÚDUITHE

Coinnigh súil ar láithreán gréasáin Oifig na Scrúduithe agus ar do chuntas ríomhphoist Ollscoil na Gaillimhe go rialta, áit a bhfaighidh tú eolas faoi thorthaí scrúduithe, scrúduithe an fhómhair, achomhairc scrúduithe agus laethanta comhairliúcháin.

Please check the Exams Office and your University of Galway email regularly for information on exam results, autumn exams,  appeals and consultation days.

Here are some key dates to be aware of:

• Undergraduate final results released 21 - 23 June
• Postgraduate final results released 30 June
• Autumn exam timetable published 6 July
• Autumn exams 1 - 11 August
• Undergraduate autumn results 1 September
• Postgraduate autumn results 8 September

If you deferred an exam or need to repeat an exam from semester 1 or 2, they will take place during the autumn exams sitting. Make sure to check the exams website, repeats FAQ page here. 

EXAMS SUPPORTS - TACAÍOCHTAÍ SCRÚDUITHE

If you are sitting exams in August here are some supports to be aware of:

SUMS mathematics and statistics support will be available from 17 July until 20 July, both in person and online.  Details on how to book will be available here from early July. 

Academic Writing Centre - Now open for one-on-one appointments. All students are welcome. To make a booking email the AWC here. Keep an eye on the website here for more info. 

Podcasts - Listen in here to "Debrief - What Happens Next" part of the Exam Jam podcast series to get practical information on what you can do if you need to repeat an exam. 

Consultation days - Want to talk about your results? Consultation days are your opportunity to meet with academic staff to discuss results. Consult your school or academic discipline to arrange a meeting. You must attend a consultation if you wish to appeal an exam.  

• Undergraduate consultation day 28 June
• Postgraduate consultation day 6 July
• Applications for exam appeals open after final results are released.  

Student Enquiry Centre Pop Up Coffee Morning - Meet us in our temporary home, upstairs in Áras Uí Chathail on 28 and 30 June from 10-1pm and 2-4pm. Drop in for tea, coffee and snacks, if you are on campus and want to chat about your results. 

CAMPUS SAFETY - SÁBHÁILTEACHT AR AN GCAMPAS

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber,  and our colleagues in Nottingham University, following the random and fatal stabbing of the two first year students last week and the third victim, Ian Coates.

Your health, wellbeing and safety are of paramount importance to us and the university is working on a number of new initiatives to increase security on campus.

These include the introduction of a ‘Safe Zone’ App, upgrading security cameras, increased in-person security patrols (and Garda presence) on campus day and night, ‘Safe Corridors’ throughout the campus and an increased focus on safety at orientation.

We will have more news on these in September. In the meantime, we want to  remind you of the hints and tips we gave you in our ezine earlier in the semester on how to stay safe on campus and in the city.

Summer Lockers
Around campus this summer? €10 summer lockers are available now. Book online here. Lockers for the new academic year 2023/24 will go on sale via Your Space at 10am 28 August.  

Canvas
The new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), will be in place from September and will replace Blackboard. You will have access to all materials on Blackboard until the end of August.  However you should take time now to download anything you would like to keep as Blackboard will go offline permanently on 1 September.

The University Pharmacy is currently closed and will re-open at the end of August. 

Summer Opening Hours:

• An Bialann is open Monday to Friday 9 - 3pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
• The Pantry is open Fridays from 1pm during the summer. Click here for more info.
• Smokey’s Café is open Monday to Friday 9 - 4pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
• The SU Shop is open Monday to Friday 8.30 - 4pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
• Sult is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to close. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
• The SU Office is open Monday to Thursday 10 - 12.30pm and 2 - 4.30pm and Fridays 10 - 2pm.
